Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, the Burleigh county Sheriff’s Department, and the University of Mary Health PRO will host a Prescription Drug Take Back Event. The Take Back Event aims to provide a means of disposing of prescription drugs to fight abuse of medications in the Bismarck area. Susan Kahler, Substance Abuse Prevention Program Coordinator for Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, says that unused medications are a growing public health and safety concern.
"Access is one of those key risk factors for abuse and addiction of these prescription opioid medications. So if we can reduce the accessibility of unused or expired medications, then we have fewer drugs that there are to be misused, and fewer people that will be at risk for abuse, or addiction, or overdose, or even death."
The Prescription Drug Take Back Event will be held on Friday, April 22, from 12 to 2 p.m. on the University of Mary campus in the Lumen Vitae University Center.
