Tuesday, August 21 – Every election year, we invite all the candidates seeking statewide office. We start our coverage with Jim Dotzenrod, the Democratic candidate for ag commissioner. He’s challenging incumbent Doug Goehring. ~~~ Speaking of politics, we share another Mark Trahant commentary regarding the Lt. Governor candidates in Minnesota, both of which are Native American women. ~~~ We’ve been hearing about the problem of blue-green algae ruining parts of the Florida coast, but it can also be a problem in area lakes and wetlands. It’s Chuck Lura’s topic in today’s Natural North Dakota essay. ~~~ Last month’s TEDxFargo event brought another full house to the Civic Center for a day of inspirational speeches about big ideas. Today we share one of those presentations. 17-year-old Joseph Schoning is from the Bemidji area, and he spoke of his love for writing, music, and the cultural identity he struggled with. ~~~ In a second TEDx presentation, we hear from twin sisters Jocelyne and Monique Lamoureaux. They are three-time Olympians in hockey, winning silver in 2010 and 2014 and gold in 2018. They spoke about gender equality, equal opportunity and inclusion. (Good luck telling their voices apart!)
