The associate dean of academics at UND’s John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences has been named as the dean of the school.
Paul Lindseth takes over for Bruce Smith, who has retired. His appointment is effective July first.
Lindseth says it’s an honor to be named dean of the aerospace school. He says the school is a special place.
"It's a well-regarded school, often referred to as the pre-eminent aerospace college, not only in the county, but around the world," Lindseth said. "We've got a lot of great things going as far as providing the highest quality education possible at a reasonable cost to our students."
Lindseth says the aerospace school also has great faculty – many of whom have been there a long time. And he says the career opportunities for graduates are very bright.
"The nation is experiencing a pilot shortage," Lindseth said. "Some of the regional carriers have had to cancel flights because of not enough pilots. It's an outstanding time, the best time I've seen in my 27, 28 years here at the Odegard school for folks to get a commercial aviation degree and become an airline pilot or cargo pilot."
Lindseth says there are also opportunities in air traffic control, and in computer science.
The Odegard school has about 2000 students.
