The state Senate has unanimously passed a bill delaying the implementation of medical marijuana.
Voters approved Measure 5 in the November election. But since it was approved, the state Health Department has been trying to write rules. The department says it needs more time.
The bill is sponsored by the Republican and Democratic floor leaders in both houses.
"There has been concern that the bill before us is an effort to defeat that measure," said Sen. Joan Heckaman (D-New Rockford), the Senate Minority Leader. "This is not the case. This bill is just the opposite. It is a safeguard so that the citizens of this state can be assured of safe, carefully written laws addressing Measure 5."
The House could vote on this measure by the end of the week.
