March oil production dropped in North Dakota.

But the state’s director of mineral resources says it wasn’t as bad as he first thought.

In March, the state produced just over 1.1 million barrels a day. That’s down about 10,000 barrels from February. But mineral resources director Lynn Helms thought it would be worse.

"It looked ten days ago like we were going to drop below 1.1 million," Helms said at his monthly "Director's Cut" briefing. "But we had 4 operators who came in with some amended reports, with some significant production increases. That pushed us back above the 1.1 million."

Helms says he still expects further drops in production. And he believes by the end of the year, production will drop below one million barrels a day.
