Bismarck man shot by police

A 49 year old Bismarck man is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds after being shot by Bismarck police.

Shortly after 11 last night, police received a 9-1-1 call from a man claiming to be holding hostages at gunpoint. The man hung up – and repeated attempts to call him back failed. Police then arrived at the location, the Clem Kelly Softball complex. One officer saw someone with something in his hand that looked like a handgun wrapped in a shirt. The man started yelling at the officer, then ran into the dugout. Police say the man refused to follow officers’ commands – and when it appeared he was pointing a weapon at the officer, three other officers who were on-scene fired their weapons.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. No condition report was available for the suspect.
