North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger has unveiled the new state “Blue Book.”
The book contains a number of facts, statistics and stories about North Dakota. It's published every two years.
This year, the book unveiling came on the state’s birthday – November 2nd – where North Dakota is celebrating 128 years of existence.
"The entire goal of the Blue Book is to preserve our heritage," Jaeger said at a Capitol news conference.
The first copy of the Blue Book was given to the Governor’s office. Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford accepted on behalf of the office.
"As a native North Dakotan who's lived here most of my life, I find it's always a joy to learn more about our state's history," Sanford said. "Books like this reinforce our sense of place, and in still pride in our communities and our state."
This year, the book features the state’s “Pride of Dakota” program. It's a program to promote North Dakota businesses and products. It was established by former Commissioner Kent Jones in the 1980s.
"It started with 20 companies," said Deputy Agriculture Commissioner Tom Bodine. "Now, we're over 500."
The Blue Book sells for $20.
