Much of the state is in either a winter weather advisory or blizzard warning throughout the rest of this evening.
Jim Kaiser is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks. He says as the cold front pushes through the state with 35 to 50 mph wind gusts, it’s mostly just blowing around a lot of snow that’s already on the ground. But Kaiser says the conditions are making travel difficult, as visibility is reduced.
"The worst conditions extend from Minot to the Carrington, Harvey area west of Devils Lake. Maybe some of Rugby is seeing some lower visibility. And then down into the Jamestown, Valley City corridor."
The blizzard warning extends from the Devils Lake Basin all the way through the southern Red River Valley. It is expected to end by 8 or 9pm.
Kaiser says if you absolutely must travel, allow a lot of time to get to your destination. Otherwise he says it’s best to stay home.
Kaiser says temperatures will plunge below zero once again tomorrow before another warm up on Friday, and another clipper arrives.
