Breaking news: Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has died. He was 68

North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has died.

He was 68.

Medical personnel responded to his home at about 8:30 am Friday morning. He was unconscious. Stenehjem was taken to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, where he passed away late Friday afternoon.

Stenehjem said in December he would not seek another term as Attorney General, and said he was looking forward to travel with his wife, Beth.

Before being elected North Dakota’s attorney general in 2000, he had served in the Legislature. First elected in 1976 to the House, he moved to the state Senate in 1980.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
