WBI Energy’s North Bakken Expansion Pipeline is now in-service.
The pipeline will carry 250 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. And it’s north of Lake Sakakawea.
"Currently, that area north of Lake Sakakawea is constrained in its ability to add new gas capture facilities, because of transmission constraints," said North Dakota Pipeline Authority diretor Justin Kringstad. "The North Bakken project is going to be a critical asset for that region."
Kringstad said the pipeline capacity is expandable to over 600 million cubic feet of gas per day.
"It's a substantial system, as producers look to development, and expand oil and gas production north of the lake," Kringstad said.
Kringstad said producers want all their gas capture 'ducks in a row' before they expand production in the area.
"Without this transmission piece, producers' ability to move in was limited," Kringstad said.
The project cost $250 million.
