Secretary of State Al Jaeger said the proposed initiated Constitutional measure to impose term limits on the Governor and the Legislature does not have enough valid signatures to get on the ballot.
The measure needed 31,164 valid signatures. The sponsoring committee submitted 46,333 signatures. But Jaeger said more than 29,000 signatures were thrown out, for various reasons, including inadequate signatures, missing addresses, and signatures from people from outside North Dakota.
Jaeger is withholding further comment, because of an on-going investigation.
The chairman of the group North Dakotans for Term Limits, Jared Hendrix of Minot, said his group will pursue potential legal challenges to "protect the integrity of our initiated measure process."
