We left him and his partner, George Wilkins, after they crash-landed on a floating iceberg during a blizzard on March 30th, 1927. The next morning, they found their island was adrift among towering ice ridges. Wilkins, the navigator, estimated they were 65 miles from safety, but their island was floating farther away each moment.
  • 5/2/2004: One of NDSU’s oldest organizations is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a concert today at 2 p.m. at Festival Concert Hall in Fargo. It’s the Gold Star Band, organized in 1902 by a local musician and the Secretary of the College.
  • 5/6/2004: McLean County is named for John A. McLean, the first mayor of Bismarck. Today we’re talking about one of his sons, Harry, who was born in Bismarck in 1883 and died May 1st, 1961.
