  • 5/25/2005: Stark County was organized on this date in 1883. The Andreas’ Atlas of North Dakota was published the following year and stated, “The northeast part of the county is drained by branches of the Big Knife River, the middle portions by the Heart and the north fork of the Cannon Ball River, and the southern by the south fork of the last named stream.

  • 6/22/2005: Ralph “Doc” Hubbard was a colorful figure in western North Dakota; he was born into a unique family on this date in 1886. Hubbard’s great grandmother was Mohawk, and his paternal grandfather, Silas, was a medical doctor who practiced among the Senecas in upstate New York. Silas moved his family to Illinois in 1855, and a year later, Ralph’s father, Elbert, was born.
