NDSBA, ND Insurance Reserve Fund to offer threat assessment training for schools

North Dakota school districts will be offered “threat assessment” training this summer.

The North Dakota School Boards Association is partnering with the state’s Insurance Reserve fund to offer the training.

"It's really just the practice of having policies and plans in place amongst the school district administration and local agencies , such as law enforcement, social workers, school counselors," said NDSBA executive director Alexis Baxley. "This is to communicate about incidents that might come up that could become a threat, that could be perceived as a threat, and how to handle and investigate those threats."

Baxley said a number of North Dakota school districts already have policies in place.

We've heard a number of times across the country that, after the tragic events that have taken place in certain situations, where people have had indications that some of these individuals were dangerous or were planning to take action," Baxley said. "And things just slipped through the cracks, because agencies weren't talking to each other. That's what we're trying to avoid."

The training will be offered in Bismarck, Emerado, Williston and Rugby.
