Amoco stations slowly switching to Tesoro

By Dave Thompson

Bismarck, ND – Tesoro Petroleum is slowly changing the names and exteriors of the 11 company owned stations which were part of the purchase of Amoco's Mandan refinery.

But if you have an Amoco credit card, and want to use it at a Tesoro station, you may be out of luck.

"As soon as the Tesoro sign goes up, we no longer have that ability," says Tesoro spokesperson Karen Vazquez. She says that's because all the Amoco equipment is removed -- and replaced with Tesoro equipment. But she says if you have an Amoco card, there are other options.

"We offer to them the ability to basically receive instant credit on a Tesoro account. We don't give them a card, but we do process the transaction on a Tesoso account, and they receive a card later in the mail."

Vazquez says so far, two of the 11 stations -- one in Mandan, the other in Fargo -- have changed branding. She says Tesoro is doing two per week. Other stations that have the Amoco brand, but are not owned by Tesoro, are being contacted to see if they want the new brand.
