Possible Combined Jail for Burleigh and Morton Counties

The Morton County Commission approved of building a jail with Burleigh County.

Pat Heinert is Burleigh County Sheriff. He said the future jail can only be built of a home rule charter and half-cent sales tax are passed by voters on the June 10th ballot.

Heinert said he asked for permission to advertise for Request for Qualification of architectural firms at the Burleigh County Commission Meeting.

"To start the planning phases, the developmental phases, and some architectural phases of cost estimating and some preliminary drawings so we can have a good idea of what we are looking at and how much exactly it will cost us," Heinert said.

Heinert said a jail study was done last year on Burleigh and Morton Counties. He said the study indicated that in about 15 to 25 years 100 to 125 additional inmates will be in the jails per day.
