Former Burleigh County deputy arrested for possession of meth, stolen cell phones

ND Supreme Court

A former Burleigh County deputy faces drug and theft charges – after methamphetamine and cell phones in evidence were stolen from the Metro Area Drug Task Force.

Kerry Komrosky was arrested Tuesday night.

Sheriff Pat Heinert side Komrosky was working patrol Saturday when he asked his supervisor for an extra hour of leave. That was granted. But he didn’t show up for more than three hours. Heinert said the supervisor then went to Komrosky’s house. He said the supervisor found evidence of a crime.

"The Sheriff's Department placed Komrosky on leave immediately," Heinert told reporters. "We started an internal investigation, attempted to interview him, and he resigned."

Heinert said Komrosky refused a blood test.

A search warrant was issued for the residence.

"In his home, officers found numerous items including methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and stolen cell phones," Heinert said.

One pound of meth was found, with a street value in excess of $10,000, as were 13 cell phones.

Komrowsky had been a member of the task force, before being reassigned in December of 2017. He was arrested – and taken to the Stutsman County Correctional Center in Jamestown.

The case has been turned over to the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

"It is not easy for us to arrest one of our own," Heinert said. "But it's important for our community to know that no matter the circumstances, we will be professional. We will make the hard decisions to arrest one of our own if they violate the laws of North Dakota."

McLean County States’ Attorney Ladd Erickson is prosecuting the case.
