On a unanimous vote, the state Board of Higher Education approved the nomination of Doctor Tisa Mason as the new President of Valley City State University. Mason is the current Vice President of Student Affairs at Fort Hayes State University in Hayes, Kansas and was one of 39 applicants for the position at Valley City State. Larry Robinson is Director of Advancement at V-C-S-U and led the committee in charge of the search. He says Doctor Mason will bring a lot of new energy to the campus...

"...We're going to move to the next level with her leadership and her energy. She brings a track record that is just outstanding with previous experience in Wisconsin at Whitewater and her present position at Fort Hayes State. Her resume is impeccable and comes with the highest of recommendations. So we're excited."

Upon accepting the position, Mason says there is still a lot of ground to cover, and many people to meet before she can get fully underway. Mason says that includes making any plans for the future of the University...

"...Everybody what's to know 'Where are you going to take us? Where are you going to take us?' And you can't know that -- or set that by yourself. You can't impose that. It has to be inspired. And that can  only be a collaborative process if it is going to be successful. So we all have to take some time to get to know each other and have a little patience for the process and enjoy our community as we get to know each other."

Mason takes over for President Steve Shirley who left Valley City for the Presidency at Minot State University earlier this year. Mason is expected to begin work sometime before the end of the year.
