BNSF to spend $100 million in ND in 2016

BNSF Railway is planning to spend $100 million in North Dakota this year.

"It will be focused primarily on maintenance projects," said BNSF spokesperson Amy McBeth. "And those are the things like replacing rail, replacing ties that help us continue to operate safely and reliably."

"We have about 55 miles of rail that will be replaced in the state," McBeth said. "In addition, nearly 240,000 ties will be replaced."

She says this plan reflects the increased capacity it has built in North Dakota over the past several years.

"When you look at North Dakota alone over the last three years, BNSF has invested more than $1.1 billion in our North Dakota network," McBeth said.

McBeth also says some signals at rail crossings will be updated.
