Camping in ND parks will re-open May 9, with restrictions

At his daily COVID-19 briefing, Governor Doug Burgum announced that the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department will be re-opening state park campgrounds beginning May 9.

All campgrounds, except for Little Missouri State Park, will be open for no-service camping. Little Missouri State Park will open May 21.

Burgum says campers will notice some differences in the parks - such as limited camp sites, limited access to rest areas and comfort stations, and no multi-unit camping.

"The buildings on the property and the food service, concession - whether it's hay for horses, fuel, ice, firewood - those are not going to be open at this point in time. You'll have to get your vehicle pass and camping registrations all online. If you're a marina slip user, you can also start bringing boats in on May 9."

Special events, facility rentals and shelter reservations have been canceled or postponed until further notice. Burgum also reminds the public to adhere to CDC guidelines regarding hygiene and physical distancing while in the parks.
