North Dakota’s Department of Transportation opened to the Public Monday.
It’s appointment-only. And the DOT sites have been very busy.
"On Monday, we took in an extremely high volume of calls for drivers' licenses and motor vehicles," said DOT Drivers' License Division Director Brad Schaffer. "We're working through that."
Schaffer said appointments are being scheduled as quickly as possible.
"You can call the number we have on our Website," Schaffer said. "If you can't get through to the drivers' license side because of the high volumes, we have made a feature available on the Website, where you can request an appointment on-line, and we will have somebody call you back and schedule something with you as soon as we can."
Schaffer said DOT is not yet offering all services.
"What we're offering is all our CDL (Commerical Drivers' License) activity," Schaffer said. "We're also doing the Class-D road tests now, as well as Class-D knowledge tests, especially for the kids who are anxious to get going. That's been very popular."
Schaffer said DOT is alos doing out-of-state tranfers, for people who want to vote in North Dakota soon. And he said motorcycle knowledge tests will also be offered.
Schaffer said when you come to a DOT site, your temperature will be checked, and you will be asked some questions about your health and potential exposure to the coronavirus.
