State trooper involved in a fatal shooting near Mandan

A North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper shot and killed a Montana man after a pursuit west of Mandan.

It happened at about 8:18 PM Tuesday.

The pursuit resulted from a reckless driver call.

The driver was eastbound on I-94.

In a statement, the Patrol says the pursuit ended, and the trooper fired his duty weapon, killing a 45 year old man from Billings, Montana.

The trooper was put on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Morton County States’ Attorney.

The patrol has scheduled a 3 PM news conference.
