Fargo Cass Public Health is beginning to offer flu shots during upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
Rachael Johnson is Public Health Nurse Manager with Fargo Cass Public Health. She says the flu shots will be offered during the primary COVID-19 vaccine series clinics, and not the booster dose clinics. They will be available to anyone over the age of six months.
Johnson says the strain of COVID-19 on health care systems is making flu vaccines even more important than ever.
"As with last year as well, hospital systems are experiencing a lot of bed shortage, due to COVID and whatnot. But if we can help prevent any hospitalizations by getting that flu shot, that's our goal. We don't want to burden the hospital systems any more than they already are."
Johnson says getting annual flu shots is the best way to both avoid getting sick with the flu, and passing it on to others. She says flu shots may be given at the same time as COVID-19 vaccines, and any other inoculations. She says in addition to Fargo Cass Public Health, flu shots are widely available at pharmacies and health care providers.
Flu shots will be provided on a walk-in basis during the COVID-19 vaccine clinics on Friday, October 29 from 10am to 2pm, and on Tuesday, November 2 from noon to 6pm at the FCPH’s main location, 1240 25th Street South in Fargo.
