Opening Borders ~ Knife River Indian Villages

Tuesday, March 3, 2020 – Abriendo Fronteras means “Opening Borders.” This non-profit organization has been organizing trips to the southern border. According to its mission statement, it seeks to cultivate “peace and justice by creating opportunities for building relationships of mutual respect and dignity.” Today we visit with 3 people just back from a 6-day immersion experience organized by Open Borders. Joining us are Josh Boschee, Karen Ehrens, and Cynthia Shabb. ~~~ The Hidatsa people have villages near along the Knife River, which feeds into the Missouri, dating back to the 13th century. Darian Kath is an interpretive specialist at Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site. He gives Ashley Thornberg a tour of an earth lodge and shares his approach to keeping history alive.
