Cramer names veterans advisory committee

Congressman Kevin Cramer has formed a “veterans advisory board.”

Cramer says the group will help give him guidance on issues important to people who served our country in the military. Cramer says one issue he has been working on is an effort to change a policy that denies benefits to veterans and their spouses – if they qualify for two separate benefits.

"If you are a wounded veteran, and have a disability, you are entitled to earn disability pay," said Cramer. "And if you're also retired, you receive retirement pay. There has been a tendency to replace one with the other -- they (the VA) considers it 'double dipping.' I reject that, of course. Both benefits were earned, of course -- and rather painfully, I might add."

Cramer says he's signed off on letters -- and legislation -- to change that policy.
