'Revenge porn' bill making its way through the Legislature

It’s called “revenge porn.”

And Senate Minority Leader Mac Schneider (d-Grand Forks) has a bill to criminalize it.

“Take, for instance, a young woman who, at the request of her boyfriend, sends a racy picture of  herself to the boyfriend," said Schneider. "They break up. And the boyfriend, out of spite, posts the racy pictures to the Internet. That young woman's reputation is ruined, her privacy is violated -- and it has some pretty devastating consequences.”

Schneider’s bill would make it a class “A” misdemeanor – which carries a maximum one year behind bars, and a $3000 fine. It unanimously passed the Senate, and is now in the House Judiciary Committee.
