  • Measures to curb disease outbreaks haven’t always been popular in North Dakota. It's nothing new that even state officials might oppose certain efforts.
  • Dakota Territory existed for 28 years – from 1861, just days before Abraham Lincoln took office, until 1889, when the territory was divided along the 46th parallel, with North and South Dakota admitted as states.
  • We had a hawk recently buzz our bird feeder. The birds at the feeder scattered for cover, and from what I could see, it was a failed effort by the hawk to get a meal. It happened so quickly that it was tough to positively identify the hawk, but it probably was a Cooper’s hawk.

  • On this date in 1932, it was announced that paintings of North Dakota artist Paul E. Barr would be exhibited at Memorial Hall at the state Capitol. The exhibit would include thirty-one scenes of the North Dakota Badlands. Although not born in North Dakota, he became one of the state’s foremost artists.
  • On this date in 1910, Charles Moline told Sheriff Erickson what had happened to his father. Charles explained that elder Moline had been in the town of Barton and was intoxicated. As Charles drove his father back to the farm in a sleigh, he gave him a bottle of whiskey laced with strychnine. As the poison took effect, his father got out of the sleigh and collapsed in the snow.
  • Brandi Malarkey introduces us to the new Fargo based-band, Hiahli, which is currently in the middle of a unique recording project. Hear from Ryan Tetzloff and Jason Boynton, the co-founders of the hip-hop band with the unusual name.
