  • 7/10/2007: Although the railroads are credited for bringing growth and prosperity to many small North Dakota towns in the late 1800s and early 1900s, it was the steamboats that first served as the major Red River life lines.
  • 7/13/2007: A curious incident was reported by the Fargo Forum on this day in 1916. Although resulting from a simple case of mistaken identity, it resulted in a close call for a popular Minot couple, and almost cost a pair of Pinkerton detectives their jobs. The incident occurred a few days earlier, but an investigation ensued before further action could be taken on the matter.

  • 7/17/2007: Peter Schickele was born in Ames Iowa on July 17, 1935 and graduated from Swarthmore in 1957 and a short time later, earned an MS in music composition from the Julliard School of Music. In between, he spent his formative youthful years growing up in Fargo. Schickele has always followed his own path…being the only music major to graduate with his 1957 Swarthmore class just as he was the only bassoonist with the F-M Symphony Orchestra. His advanced musical education began early, studying composition as a youngster in Fargo under legendary conductor, Sigvald Thompson.
  • 7/20/2007: Charles Randolph Korsmo was born in Fargo on this date in 1978 to John Korsmo and Deborah Ruf. After his parents divorced in 1989, “Charlie” was raised in Minneapolis by his mother.
  • 7/21/2007: The North Dakota Children’s Home received its five hundredth child on this day in 1903.
  • 7/23/2007: The government of Renville County was organized on this day in 1910, although it was not the first or only Renville County created in North Dakota. The county North Dakotans know as Renville County today is actually the second county in the state to be named Renville.
  • 7/28/2007: On this day, July 28, 1864, Brigadier General Alfred Sully, leading three thousand volunteers, attacked several groups of Dakota, Nakota and Lakota in what became known as the Battle of Killdeer Mountain.

  • 4/14/2008: It was this day, April 14, 2004, that Governor John Hoeven launched the selection process for the design of the North Dakota state quarter. According to Governor Hoeven the state quarter represented a unique opportunity to “share North Dakota’s many cultural, commercial and recreational wonders with the rest of the nation and the world.”
