'Green Revolution' retooled, now back on display

An exhibit at the North Dakota Heritage Center which became somewhat controversial has re-opened – after being re-tooled.

“Green Revolution” is actually a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian. The State Historical Society closed it temporarily after some in the oil and coal industries objected to its perceived anti-fossil fuel message.

"We have enhanced the Smithsonian exhibit with much more of the North Dakota story, and examples of sustainability in North Dakota," said Kim Jondahl, the communications and education director for the state Historical Society. She said the exhibit now features more than 100 objects specifically from North Dakota.

"We have a dress that was made from product boxes and bottles from a local salon," Jondahl said. "There's also all sorts of information on the walls and in the exhibit cases."

Jondahl said North Dakota is the only place where the exhibit has been changed to reflect more of a state specific theme. She said the Smithsonian has been very helpful in that regard. Jondahl said many of the panels as questions, such as "What would you do" and "How would you approach this."

"We are not pushing any agenda," Jondahl said. "We really want people to come in, take a look and make their own choices."

The exhibit will be on display until April 30th, 2017.
