Jo Verdis was doing well with music, studying in Texas and then with composers in Belgium.  A combination of emotional trauma and a traumatic brain injury had her unable to work in music.  She began to work in visual art and found that, not only was she able to do good work -- she began to be able to do music again.  She explains that the particular medium she chose, painting with alcohol inks, had particular characteristics that contributed to her healing.    Her first professor of music composition was Dr. Steven Makela, and he organized her Fargo-Moorhead visit (he is now at Concordia College).  They met again for the first time in nineteen years.

The music excerpted is her song "Saying I Love You", and she says "My collaborator, voice coach, audio engineer, producer and above all, friend, Ejé Lynn-Jacobs, performed on percussion and did the music production for “Saying I Love You”, while I wrote and arranged the song and performed on piano, guitar and vocals."  To listen to the entire song, click below.
