Basin to build four new power plants in ND and SD

Bismarck, ND – Basin Electric plans to build four new power plants in North Dakota and South Dakota.

Spokesman Daryl Hill says construction will begin this spring on the four new plants located near St. Anthony in North Dakota and near Wetonka, Clark, and Estelline in South Dakota. He says they will be fueled by hot exhaust from compressor stations near the Northern Border Pipeline.

Hill says the project, which will generate 24 megawatts, will have minimal environmental impact with the electric generation considered to have zero or near zero emissions.

Basin Electric transmits electricity to 124 member rural electric systems in nine states.
