Bismarck, ND – Emergency managers and state agency representatives are meeting this week to talk about incident training and emergency response.
Steve Hightower-the weapons of mass destruction incident management training program supervisor at Texas A & M University-spoke at the workshop about terrorism from the perspective of terrorists. He says Al Queda and Osama Bin Laden aren't the only terrorists he says other examples include Eric Robert Rudolph, who was wanted in relation to the bombing at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and for bombing several planned-parenthood clinics in Atlanta; Timothy McVeigh who bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City; and any other extremists who resort to violence.
Hightower says the threat of terrorism will be with us for the foreseeable future and North Dakota is no exception.
Hightower says emergency managers in North Dakota are trained to deal with not only terrorism, but also extreme weather, airplane crashes, and train derailments.
