Bismarck, ND – The state Senate has turned down the concept of a "virtual university."
The bill would have required North Dakota's public colleges and universities to separately report the numbers of students who take classes on-line.
Sen. Tony Grindberg (R-Fargo) was the bill's sponsor.

The bill's opponents say the bill would add a level of paperwork -- and they say the numbers of on-line students are readily available.
The bill failed 25 to 18.
