Texting Tips for Mothers

The North Dakota Department of Health and The March of Dimes are working to make pregnant women and new mothers aware of a program called Text4Baby.

Kim Mertz is the Director of the Family Health Division for the Department of Health. She said Text4Baby is a free texting service that promotes child and mother health.

“They want to get messages out to pregnant women about how important it is to take care of themselves, because really the outcome is to have a healthy baby,” Mertz said. “What you do is go online or on your cell phone and enter your due date. It will also ask you questions of what your zip code is. It’s a very easy process.”

Mertz said mothers should text 511411 to receive three text messages a week. Mothers can keep receiving messages up to a year after their child’s birth.
