A Grand Forks project has been chosen as one of the winners in the “Knight Cities Challenge.”
The Knight Foundation issued the challenge to help cities attract and keep talented people, expand economic opportunities and create a culture of civic engagement.
Pete Haga of Grand Forks submitted a project he calls "The New Flavors Food Truck."
Haga says it’s almost an “Uber” model.
"The food truck and serving facilities would be available on a request or rental basis," Haga said. "It would be primarily focused on the new American populations."
Haga says throughout history, it’s been food that brings people together.
"We know there is a great need for social integration," said Haga. "This is one way we can use food to try to bring new cultures and new flavors into the community."
Haga says the truck will likely cost around $100,000. Haga works for the city of Grand Forks – but he says this will not be a city-owned vehicle. Rather, he says it will be operated by a non-profit.
