North Dakota ranks #3 for lowest risk of overspending on Black Friday

Black Friday will be here next week - and according to a national survey, North Dakotans are responsible shoppers.

A survey by OppLoans says North Dakota is #3 for lowest risk of overspending on Black Friday. Only Nebraska and Wisconsin have lower risk. Matt Pelkey is senior content manager for OppLoans. He says many Black Friday shoppers find themselves in stressful situations over the holidays when it comes to finding gifts for their loved ones.

"They're feeling regret about it, they're feeling stress about it, some people are losing sleep over it. There's a lot of people who are going into credit card debt over it, and some more people are taking out loans because they spent too much and need the extra funds."

63 percent of survey respondents also said that using a credit card encouraged them to spend more than they should. Pelkey says one tip to avoid overspending is to take screenshots or photos of items you plan to buy before going shopping, and then only purchasing those items.
