2019 Racing Season set at ND Horse Park in Fargo

The North Dakota Racing Commission has approved seven days of horse racing at the North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo in 2019.

Horse Park general manager Mike Schmitz said the track will most likely use six days of racing. Those dates are Saturday, July 13th; Sunday, July 14th; Friday, July 19th; Saturday, July 20th; Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th.

Schmitz said attendance at the races has been consistent, despite some hurdles.

"We really struggled the last two years," Schmitz said. "There was road construction, and that made access to the Horse Park pretty tough."

But Schmitz said overall, things are going well.

"We've been able to put on the type of racing folks have become accustomed to," Schmitz said. "We want to continue to do that."

All of the races will be held in the afternoon, except Friday, which will be in the evening. Schmitz said that’s because of the Fargo AirSho that weekend.

"Their performances are Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon," Schmitz said. "They use the airspace above the track. Those jets scare the horses."

Schmitz said the breeders have been very happy with the Horse Park – and he said many rate it the best track of the four tracks in the Dakotas.
