Chuck Newhall on "Fearful Odds" ~ Preserving the Lakota Language

On this Veterans’ Day, we visit with Chuck Newhall, who has written about his journey overcoming PTSD in his book “Fearful Odds.” ~~~ After serving two tours in Iraq, Army Specialist Tom Woods returned home to California suffering from PTSD and alcohol addiction. His wife, Candace Desmond-Woods, struggled alongside him. At StoryCorps, they discussed what that was like for her and the rest of their family, and why she stuck by him. ~~~ Chuck Lura tells us about the Killdeer Mountains in today’s Natural North Dakota essay. ~~~ Lawrence Hott is the director of "Rising Voices," a documentary about efforts to preserve the Lakota language. It debuts next week on the on Prairie Public’s World Channel, available off air and on many cable and satellite services.
