Icelandic Prime Minister Visits Mountain, ND

North Dakota is often called fly-over country. You might be surprised at who’s flocking to a small town in the northeast corner of the state. Would you believe a sitting prime minister? Her Excellency Katrín Jakobsdóttir is the prime minister of Iceland.

She traveled to Mountain, ND, population 92, to give a keynote address at the annual August the Deuce festival. It’s the longest running ethnic festival in the state, and the largest Icelandic heritage festival in the country.

She visited with Main Street’s Ashley Thornberg about why parts of North Dakota and Manitoba hold a special place in the hearts of Icelanders.
