Monday, February 12, 2019 – For much of the 20th century, Native Americans viewed modern museums as places where their cultural objects were displayed and interpreted by voices that were not their own. There’s now an effort underway to help Native Americans pursue careers in museums and other areas of cultural heritage. Joining us to discuss this new fellowship program is Joe Horse Capture, Minnesota Historical Society director of Native American Initiatives. ~~~ StoryCorps is a national initiative to record and collect stories of everyday people. Today we share an excerpt, edited by Prairie Public, of an interview recorded at the StoryCorps mobile booth last summer at the Heritage Center in Bismarck as Tasha Carvell visits with her father, Kevin. ~~~ African swine fever has been spreading across China, crushing the pork industry there. The fever also has a hold in parts of Europe, and together those threats have U.S. pork producers and emergency managers worried.
