Heartbeat of Wounded Knee ~ Newseum Closing ~ ND's Fossil Record ~ Movie Review

Friday, December 27, 2019 – It was December 29, 1890 when the US Army massacred upwards of three hundred of Lakota people, many women and children. It was a horrendous day in US history and one worth commemorating. For Dr. David Treuer, a writer and professor, though we add insult to injury when we only remember the tragedies. We revisit a conversation with him from February about his book, The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: The Story of Native America from 1890 to the Present. ~~~ Mark Trahant, editor of Indian Country Today, shares an essay on upcoming closing of the Newseum, an interactive museum that promotes free expression and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, while tracing the evolution of communication. ~~~ We’re looking back on the Best of Main Street 2019. It was a big year for North Dakota’s fossil record. We learn more from the October conversation with Clint Boyd, a senior paleontologist with the North Dakota Geological Survey and the curator of the North Dakota State Fossil Collection. ~~~ A new movie review from Matt Olien, “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.”
