The Legislature’s interim Education Committee has begun its work.
Its agenda includes standards and assessments.
"We have a job to do for the state, in seeing what our standards are and where we want to be, and where we want to go," said the Committee's chairman, Sen. Don Schiable (R-Mott). "Let's not relive this. It's moving forward."
State school superintendent Kirsten Baesler welcomed that comment.
"We can't go back and redo things that occurred two years ago or four years ago," said Baesler. "We have the opportunity to move forward and prepare our students for the future. Standards play a big role in that."
The 2015 Legislature rejected a measure that would have stopped the Common Core standards.
Baesler has a task force looking at student assessments. She says the work of the task force will fit nicely with the interim committee’s deliberations.
