A Bismarck man says he’s running for state auditor.

Josh Gallion is the first Republican to formally announce for the office. The current state auditor – Robert Peterson – is not seeking re-election.

Gallion is 36. He’s a native of Spokane, Washington – and came to North Dakota as a member of the Air Force. He’s worked for the Department of Transportation, and for the last five years has been on the staff of the Public Service Commission.

"These agencies have given me the knowledge and experience in government accounting from the ground up," said Gallion. "I will bring my understanding of the value that auditing provides."

Gallion says he knows the importance of the state auditor’s position.

"Public trust is critical to maintain a vibrant democracy," Gallion said. "It can be created by transparency and accountability. Auditing provides that level of assurance."

Former Bismarck Tribune publisher Brian Kroshus has said he’s strongly considering a run for the auditor’s job.
