A group charged with raising $1 million in private money for the new Governor’s residence says the bank account has grown substantially this week, thanks to some major donations.
Committee co-chair Jim Poolman says Nodak Mutual Insurance and Sanford Health have each donated $100,000 to the effort. In addition, he says Touchstone Energy Cooperatives and First International Bank and Trust of Watford City have each given $50,000. Poolman says $20,000 has already come in through on-line donations on the Friends of the North Dakota Governor’s Residence Website.
Once the $500,000 threshold is met, ground can be broken and construction can begin.
"Our goal was to raise that first half-million dollars by the end of the year," said Poolman. "And I'm pretty darn confident we'll be able to make that goal."
The total project cost is $5 million.
