Roosevelt library not funded -- for now

As the budget stands at crossover for the North Dakota Department of Commerce, the Theodore Roosevelt Library project is not funded.

But that could change after crossover.

Governor Burgum is pushing for $50 million from the earnings of the state’s Legacy Fund – to leverage another $100 million of private money. The plan is to build the Library and Museum in Medora.

"It's still being discussed," said House Majority Leader Chet Pollert (R-Carrington).

But Pollert said there is still come consternation about it.

"Many folks throughout the state like the idea," Pollert said in an interview. "But if you talk to someone who works in a nursing home, do you think they are favoring the library? And if you're a teacher or an educator, is your priority towards education or the library?"

Pollert said he’ll have a better idea about funding for that project after the March revenue forecast.

The Senate will take up the Commerce budget after crossover.
