Peggy Lee

11/6/2010:

Peggy Lee, famed singer with North Dakota roots, wore many hats. She composed music; she sang music; she did a little acting, and she loaned her voice for several characters in the Disney cartoon “Lady and the Tramp.” Privately, she had a household to run. She was married four times and was a mother once. She was a mixture of small town girl and classy, worldly star.

And on this date in 1953, the Hillsboro Banner reported that these characteristics collided in more ways than one, when she teamed up with her housekeeper of approximately ten years. Alice Larson was also a North Dakota girl, formerly of Hillsboro. Together, they wrote the song: “Whee, Baby.”
