Woman, infant injured in shooting at Plaza Azteca restaurant in Fargo

Police say the suspect has been located, deceased, in rural Clay County.

A woman and an eight month old infant were injured in a shooting at the Plaza Azteca restaurant this afternoon in Fargo.

According to witness statements, a man fired multiple shots inside and outside the establishment before fleeing the scene in a car.

Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski says the victims were transported to Sanford Medical Center. He says the suspect is a 24-year old male who was known to the female victim.

"The female is in critical stable condition; she's in surgery. The infant is in stable condition but also, there's some injuries and surgical things going on. At this point, it appears to be promising, so we are hoping they recuperate and recover."

Zibolski says the infant sustained injuries to their hand and thigh.

Nearby schools and daycare centers in West Fargo were placed on lockdown until the suspect was located in rural Clay County. Zibolski says he was spotted and pursued by police until he crashed.

This is an ongoing investigation.

UPDATED: the suspect has been identified as 24 year old Malik Lamar Gill. Gill reportedly led Clay County authorities in a high speed pursuit in rural Clay County, which ended in a crash. He was found deceased in the stolen vehicle, from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The adult female victim was last listed as being in critical condition. The infant is stable and being treated for his injuries.

The suspect and two victims were all known to each other and lived in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Gill was a convicted felon and was prohibited from owning a firearm. He also had an active warrant for simple assault/domestic violence in Cass County.
