Flere Lag Stevne Norwegian Fair

Norwegian-American Heritage Event Heading to the Red River Valley!
“Open sky, flat land” is the theme of the annual Flere Lag Stevne coming to Moorhead, Minnesota, August 1-4, 2023. This gathering is sponsored by heritage groups whose ancestors immigrated from the old Norwegian regions of Solør, Romerike (Akershus), Hedmark, Gudbrandsdal, and Trøndelag. Genealogists with experience in researching those areas will be on hand to assist in tracing family history in Norwegian records.
As keynote speaker, Professor Lawrence Moe will talk about the hardy Norwegian pioneers who homesteaded in the Red River Valley of Minnesota and North Dakota. Other presentations will cover the encounters of Scandinavian settlers with the native Dakota tribes, the geology of the region, and the building of railroads to the Fargo/Moorhead area. A highlight is the Thursday night banquet with entertainment by the Kringen Accordion Band. The event will end with a tour on the morning of Friday, August 4, of the Hjemkomst Center to see the replica Viking ship and museum, followed by lunch at the Sons of Norway Kringen Lodge in Fargo.
The public is invited to the Scandinavian Vendor Fair on Tuesday, Aug. 1st, 1-9 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 2nd, 10:30 a.m. - 9 p.m.; and Thursday, Aug. 3rd, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Nonmembers are welcome to attend presentations and use the Genealogy Research Room for a daily fee of $20.00.
The stevne will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott at 1080 28th Avenue South, Moorhead, Minnesota 56560.
