UND gets OK to rename the J. Lloyd Stone house in honor of the Gershmans

The state Board of Higher Education has given the University of North Dakota the go-ahead to rename the J. Lloyd Stone House as the Dr. Kathleen and Hal Gershman Student Engagement Center for Graduate and International Students.

That – after the Gershmans gifted $3 million to restore the building. It was used as the UND Alumni Center before the Center moved.

UND proposed it earlier this month, but a committee of the state Board asked UND to make sure it had contacted the Stone Family.

"I'm very pleased with the way the University, and in particular, the Alumni Association, dealt with this issue," said Board member Daniel Traynor. "UND dealt with this issue promptly, communicated with the Stone family and achieved a resolution."

Traynor said he knows the Stone family was appreciative of the recognition that Lloyd and Grace Stone have received from UND, and will continue to for many years.

"We're also appreciative of the fact the Gershmans have made a considerable and significant contribution to the University that should be recognized," Traynor said.
