Bismarck, ND – The Abused Adult Resource Center wants as many used cell phones as possible
Bismarck A-A-R-C Executive Director Diane Zainhofsky says the center is starting a program called break the silence, end the violence.' She says the center is collecting used cell phones at area businesses to give to women to use as one more safety tool. Cell phones do not need to be activated to dial 9-1-1. Zainhofsky says the center is collecting cell phones, chargers, and any other equipment associated with the phones for women in the community. She says Fargo has also collected cell phones but this is the first time a community has set up drop sites at different businesses.
Zainhofsky says the center has also set up a partnership with Shelter Alliance, a Miramar, Florida firm that specializes in recycling used cell phones.
The A-A-R-C has set up eight drop sites around Bismarck and Mandan for the program including Herberger's department store in Kirkwood Mall and Bismarck State College's student union. Zainhofsky says other communities in North Dakota who want to take part in the program should call the Abused Adult Resource Center at 701-222-8270. The center has 19 locations around the state.
